| | Journalists from Developing Countries Participated in the Climate Change Forum in Brazil Organized by COM+ and GLOBE | | | Brasilia,Brazil February, 2008
Sponsored by the COM+ Alliance and GLOBE International, 28 journalists from high energy consuming emerging economies: Mexico, India, South Africa, China and Brazil got together in Brasilia to participate in the G8+5 Legislators Forum, held in Brasilia on February 20th -21st. An On the Job training session was facilitated by a specialist of the Reuters Foundation. It took place one day before the forum and gave journalists an overview on the main challenges addressed by nearly a hundred senior legislators during the meeting. Among the media outlets represented in the forum were: The Times of India; La Jornada, from Mexico; Xin Hua, Chinese News Agency; Inter Press Service; E-News Durban, from South Africa and BBC.
The forum called for establishing credible and independent certification schemes to an international standard with appropriate stakeholder engagement to ensure sustainable biofuel production as an option to reduce greenhouse gas emissions causing climate change.

| | IAASTD Will Launch Its Final Report on Global Agriculture Assessment on April 15th | | | Johannesburg, South Africa 7-12 April, 2008
The International Assessment of Agricultural Science and Technology for Development (IAASTD) will release its long-awaited report on global agriculture on April 15th. The report looks at the potential of agricultural knowledge, science and technology for reducing hunger and poverty, improving rural livelihoods and working towards environmentally, socially and economically sustainable development. It is the result of three years of unique cooperation among over 400 scientists, 30 governments from developed and developing countries, as well as 30 civil society organizations. The COM+ Alliance is facilitating the communication strategy for the global launch.

A TV spot called “Eco-tips for jeans”, produced in English, Spanish and French by the UNEP Division of Technology, Industry and Economics aims to involve young people in the fight against climate change by telling them how to wash their jeans saving energy. The spot is being broadcasted in TV around the world and Internet.

| | IUCN, WWF and Nokia Invite Youth to Share Ideas and Concerns About the Environment | | | IUCN, WWF and Nokia launched a global initiative addressed to young people called connect2earth. This is a community website that serves as a platform for the young people to share their ideas and concerns about the environment through their own videos, images or texts. These proposals for a better world will be presented to the world leaders during the IUCN World Congress next October in Barcelona.
